In addition to Creative Eye Nature Photography Workshops, Mike MacDonald offers private lessons and semi-private instruction in the Chicago, Illinois area to nature photographers who wish to quickly accelerate their photographic expertise.

Attending a photography class with other students is certainly a great way to learn nature photography techniques, but each student is unique and will absorb material differently. And because everyone has his own way of learning, some specific needs and challenges may never be addressed in a workshop setting. So, from time to time, it helps to get personal photography instruction to get you unstuck or catapult you to the next level.

Whether it be landscape photography, macro photography, or wildlife photography, Mike can help bring you to that next level of photographic expertise. Though Mike is often recognized for his landscape work, his macro photography and wildlife photography have also been nationally published. And, if you use a digital camera or a film camera, it doesn't matter. The fundamentals and techniques for making a photograph are essentially the same.

Based on various criteria and your specific needs, Mike will design the private lesson with a time period that should properly cover the topic. It may require an hour of instruction at Mike's home studio or a two-hour field session at a local nature preserve. This is why lessons are quoted on an individual basis.

Another option, which is more affordable, is to take a semi-private lesson with a friend. If you have a friend who shares your level of photographic expertise and has similar needs, then Mike can design an instruction session for the both of you.
