Essentially, the camera is simply a tool, but just like any craftsmen or artist, it is necessary to understand what the tool does and how to use it. Does the hammer build the house? Does the brush paint the painting? No, the carpenter and the artist make the decisions and do the work. And, it's the photographers job to make the photographs, not the camera's.

Especially today, when most cameras "seem" to do it all for you, the truth is that they absolutely do not! Most people who own a digital camera really have no idea how their cameras work. They simply give control to the camera and let it make the decisions for them. To know how to use and control your photographic tool is the first step in moving from "a guy with a camera" to a photographer.

In this hands-on course, you sit down with your camera and user manual, and you'll be taught how it works. Nowadays, digital cameras have many features, but there are very few of them that are actually required. You will learn the fundamentals and be taught about features that matter most.

It is important that you have a film or digital camera that has Manual Exposure Mode. This is mamdatory. Please see the Course Requirements.

After the session, you'll be ready to move onto our other photography classes.

COURSE AGENDA

The session takes place in the cozy atmosphere of my home studio in Downers Grove, Illinois. You will receive hands-on attention. The class is very interactive and I encourage students to help each other out. This creates commaraderie and reinforces learning.

This class will be limited to a small number of participants so you can get the attention you require. The cutoff will be somewhere around 6 to 8 students. So, please register quickly to insure a spot.
